Example 7

Chuck's Report

Please note that Chuck's examples are intentionally not about wireless technologies. For you to receive credit for this assignment you MUST write about wireless technologies.

Technology 1: Electric Guitar

Before Les Paul developed the first electric guitar, and like many other instruments of their day, they were played in front of a microphone which was hooked up to an amplifier. In my line of work, playing rock and roll music, the electric guitar has made a huge impact. For starters, I no longer have to remain stationary on the stage and in front of a microphone. This change has allowed me to create many of my own patented moves which brings the crowds alive as I play. The biggest problem I have experienced while playing my electric guitar on stage is that I have to be careful that I don't get my chord tangled with the bass player's or rhythm guitar players chords, that can really cause trouble.

Technology 2: Multi-track Recording

Before multi-track recording came along, me and the band had to all record our songs together at one time. If any one of us missed a note then we would have to record the song again and again until we all got it right at the same time. Thanks to Tom Dowd's invention of multi-track recording all of the instruments and the vocals can be recorded separately with each musician recording on their own track. First we lay down the lead guitar track then all the other musicians listen to the track in their headsets as they record their instrumental or vocal part of the song. Another advantage is that the volume of each track can be adjusted separately as the master is being recorded. One of the drawbacks is that since the band isn't playing together at the same time we are feeding off of each other's energy, which sometimes can make or break a hit record.

Technology 3: Digital Music/Compact Discs

Blah, blah, blah, blah, you get the idea. This is another paragraph about the a technology that you are writing about.

Technology 4: Dolby Digital 5.1

Those that remember Quadraphonic recordings of the late 60's and early 70's will appreciate Dolby Digital 5.1 or even 7.1 where our music is separated into multiple channels including a channel just for bass reproduction (a.k.a low frequency response). Type more info here about Dolby, how it has improved the sound of recorded music and a little bit about the drawbacks, like expense and competing formats like Digital Theater Sound (DTS).

Instructor's Note

Again, this is just an example to help you see how your CS 7 Report should be formatted and about how much information you should write about each technology. The first two paragraphs would receive full points. The paragraphs under technologies 3 and 4 would receive very few points.
