JSON
Overview
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, text-based, and language-independent format used to store and transmit structured data. It is widely used for sending data between a server and a web application in APIs.
Core Data Structures
JSON supports two primary data structures:
- Objects: Unordered collections of name/value pairs enclosed in curly braces {}. Names (keys) must be double-quoted strings, followed by a colon : and the value.
- Arrays: Ordered lists of values enclosed in square brackets []
Supported Data Types
- Strings: Unicode text enclosed in double quotes.
- Numbers: Base-10 numbers (integers or floating-point; excludes octal or hexadecimal).
- Booleans: true or false.
- Null: An empty or null value represented by null.
- Nested Objects & Arrays: Objects and arrays can be nested inside one another.
