Good communication is essential to building a team, and essential to learning. In this class, you will be encouraged to communicate with me and with your peers. There are a variety of ways you can communicate within this class, discussion forums, the Canvas Inbox, and my faculty email (BBennett@msjc.edu).
General Questions
If you have a question about the course, don't hesitate to ask! The best way to get your questions answered is to post in the Help! discussion forum. You can ask questions about content in the course, due dates, or technology. If you send me a general question via Canvas Inbox or my faculty email, I will probably ask you to post it in the Help! discussion before I answer it so other students can benefit - so start at the Help! discussion forum first.
Personal Questions
If you have a question that is not public in nature, such as a question about a grade, you can contact me directly via the Canvas Inbox. Due to a variety of reasons, I do not accept phone messages from students.
Learn more about using the Canvas Inbox by reading the Canvas Guide How do I use Conversations as a student? I answer all inbox messages within 48 hours, Monday - Thursday.
Online Office Hours
There are no instructor office hours for my fully online classes at this time. All communication with students is asynchronous, meaning I will respond to questions posted in the Help! discussion forum, sent via the Canvas Inbox, or by faculty email (BBennett@msjc.edu) within 48 hours of your post.
Late Assignments
I am one who believes in giving prompt feedback. I typically grade assignments and post solutions shortly after they have been submitted. For this reason, late work WILL NOT be accepted.
Deadlines are important in this class, but emergencies arise. If you need to submit an assignment after the due date (except discussions), contact me ASAP—preferably before the due date—and we can work towards a reasonable solution. Your success is paramount, a goal that I am committed to helping you achieve.
Tutoring
Learning data processing concepts can be challenging for many students. If you find that you are having difficulty in this class please get help as soon as possible. This course always builds on the material that was previously explored. Failure to keep up your understanding will snowball on you.
MSJC has several very good tutors for this class. I recommend to everyone to use their expertise to help. Information about tutors and hours is located on the MSJC tutoring page
