The CIS Tutor incorporates several principles of cognitive load theory (CLT) and cognitive theory of multimedia learning (CTML). These principles are the following: interactivity to help engage and motivate the learner, the content is organized into five steps incorporating part-task practice in order to reduce intrinsic and extraneous cognitive load, just-in-time instruction which provides supportive information, and it provides feedback to the learner to indicate whether they have successfully or unsuccesfully completed each step or part of a step. The technologies used to complete this project are Adobe's Flash Professional CS5.5, ActionScript 3.0, and Camtasia Studio 7.0.
