Google Nest
Resetting a Google Nest camera depends on whether you want to do a simple restart (which keeps your settings) or a full factory reset (which clears all data and lets you start fresh).
Here is how to do both:
1. The Soft Reset (Restart)
If your camera is offline or acting up, try a restart first. This won't change your settings.
Battery-powered cameras (Nest Cam inside/outside): Use the included release tool (or a paperclip) to press the button on the back of the camera once. Wait for the light to pulse blue, indicating it has restarted.
Wired cameras (Nest Cam IQ, Nest Cam Indoor): Simply unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
2. The Full Factory Reset
A factory reset deletes all video history, removes the camera from your Google Home app, and restores original settings.
⚠️ Important: If you want to transfer the camera to a new owner or setup, make sure to go into the Google Home or Nest app, tap your camera's Settings, and select Remove device before doing the physical reset.
For New Generation Cams (Nest Cam Battery, Nest Cam with Floodlight, Nest Doorbell)
Locate the reset pinhole on the back or bottom of the device.
Press and hold the button down using a paperclip or reset tool.
Keep holding it:
At 10 seconds, the status light will flash yellow.
At 12 seconds, the light will turn steady yellow, and you'll hear a chime tone.
Release the button once the light turns steady yellow. The camera is now reset and ready to be set up again.
For Older Generation Cams (Nest Cam IQ, Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor)
Locate the reset button (usually a small pinhole on the bottom or back of the camera head).
Insert a paperclip and hold it down for roughly 10 to 15 seconds.
The camera light will swirl, blink, or turn steady, and you will hear a notification chime.
Release the button, and the camera will wipe its data and reboot.
